About Rebecca

Rebecca is a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM). She graduated from the Yale School of Nursing in 2007, and has sought out additional diverse learning opportunities, merging allopathic and natural medicine. She grew up in Massachusetts, the daughter of a cell biologist and an artist, herbalist and organic farmer, and knew from age four that she wanted to work with women and babies.

Beyond her education at Yale University, Rebecca studied the maternal-child health system in India, touring hospitals, meeting the health minister and attending prenatal and postpartum visits in impoverished communities, studying the role of traditional midwives. She was also influenced by a month “catching babies” in a village hospital in South Africa.

Following graduation, Rebecca moved cross-country to Juneau, Alaska, where she worked as a CNM at the Juneau Family Birth Center. After five years, she transitioned to Wellspring, an integrative health clinic, where she learned to blend her experience from birth work with primary care. In 2016, she founded Earthsong Integrative Medicine and Midwifery, the culmination of her dreams, training and experience.

Since 2020, Rebecca has transitioned to practice via telemedicine.

Philosophy

Certified Nurse-Midwives believe in “a midwife for every woman, at every age.” Rebecca believes women deserve midwifery care to support them through all of life’s transitions.

Rebecca practices “relationship-based medicine”. Building a trusting relationship with patients is an essential part of her practice, in which women feel heard, witnessed, affirmed, honored, seen and understood.

Although it is rarely discussed in our culture, the relationship of client/patient and provider is central to therapeutic work and healing. Greater healing occurs when there is a strong relationship and, in many cases, this strong relationship is the largest part of the therapy itself.  Studies clearly show the positive impacts of feeling seen, heard and respected by your healthcare provider.

My greatest passion and purpose is to help women to reclaim themselves.  To help them heal and whole themselves.”

Rebecca is a budding herbalist and homeopath. She believes in therapeutic listening and the model of life coaching. Working with her is a blend of all these features, including allopathic medicine and the use of pharmaceuticals when needed.

Her work with patients is to hear their worries, uncertainties and voice and develop a co-created therapeutic plan. Her approach is to provide information, ideas and possible paths to explore, working together to create a plan that honors the patient, her body and inner voice.

Telemedicine

A visit is typically 50 minutes long but can be adjusted as needed, using Zoom as the platform. Communication leading up to and following the visit will take place via email.

Approximately 50 percent of the visit will be devoted to deep listening by Rebecca, with questions asked to assure her understanding of the patient’s life, body and needs.

Each of us is a miracle in motion. We are utter magic. We each have unique gifts within us. It is part of our life’s work to delight in our own inner brilliance all the while sharing it wholeheartedly with the world. Part of my work is to help you see this brilliance, these gifts within you. We can never be healthy or whole until we truly know (and revel in) the beauty and brilliance within ourself, and then trust that the world is waiting to be lavished with it.

Telemedicine is flexible and convenient. Visits can be scheduled before traditional work hours if needed and can be done from anywhere — home, a vehicle, the forest — with no dress code or expectations.

Rebecca serves more as a consultant and coach than as a traditional primary care provider and may discuss referrals for another locally based primary care provider or specialist as needed.

Use of technology

We may use Zoom on phones, tablets or computers or a simple telephone call if preferred.

Costs

The cost of a visit depends on a few factors, including time spent, complexity of the visit. On occasion, an additional cost will be added for certain kinds of counseling, such as tobacco cessation, and also for a prolonged visit (longer than 60 minutes). If this applies, we will discuss these costs before proceeding.

New Patient visit: $450-600

Established Patient Visit: $290-450

I revise my fee schedule every 1-2 years.

Insurance and billing

I will bill insurance for you, and then send an electronic invoice to you for whatever portion is deemed your responsibility. I can send a detailed superbill if your insurance requires you to pay in full.

Diagnosis and testing

I ask detailed questions and can sometimes provide visual assessment. I order testing and imaging at your local hospital. If your health concern requires an in-person examination, we work together to choose the best person, and I write a formal referral.

Referrals

When you need an in-person examination or your health needs are outside of my scope, I will provide a written referral. A team approach is always the strongest choice and we may discuss who would benefit you by joining your health team.

Scope of practice

Rebecca’s scope of practice is set by The American College of Midwives.  She can legally work with women from menarche (first period) to end of life, and babies up to 28 days of life. She can see men only if they are seeking treatment for a disease that affects the health of a female client (such as treatment for a partner with a sexually transmitted infection).
